Special ALDS Edition

The Major League Baseball playoffs start today. My entire audiobiography is below.

(Left) Richie Zisk, (Right) Oscar Gamble.
In retrospect, I'm glad I was never left alone with these guys at 5.

There was a guy that I at CalArts who was from Ohio. At the end of each school year he would travel from California to Ohio BY WAY of BASEBALL GAMES. Sometimes it would take him a long time to get home again!

Baseball: the game with a pace that gives fans time to connect with each other.

Yeah, Zisk looks like a chainsaw murderer in that picture... or is he a Marlboro Man? And Gamble -- hoo, NICE 'fro!

Great audioblog, Doug! Have a WONDERFUL time today/tonight -- I'm sure you will.

It's interesting how winning the 2004 WS plays into the Zeitgeist for Red Sox fans. I mean, the whole identity has changed around here. I think, in some ways, it's harder to know what being a Red Sox fan means now, when it used to be so clear. And the Patriots' recent success doesn't help matters!

If you get past the BoSox, I truly hope you ChiSox fans get to experience this same identity crisis in 2005.

What am I doing wrong here? I've never had any trouble getting your audio before. Where do I click?

Scary pix. Especially Gamble.

Wow, dddragon, a baseball Dead Head. I can dig it. It's completely amazing to me that I'm here in Chicago for this game.

Thanks, Aral. I was prepared to have this be a difficult time between us, but you've been really sweet about it. I'm disarmed (unmanned?) You wish more for me than I dare wish for myself.

It's funny about OG. I wanted to use his picture because I remember his fantastic 'fro but I was still shocked when I saw the picture. That's almost a Billy Preston. Come to think of it, Nothing from Nothing should be the White Sox theme song.

Baseball: Coopers sleeping medicine.

Have fun.

I have to go with the Yankees because the people here are harsh

That was a very heartwarming memory post. I hope your dad gets to hear it if not join you for the game.

Hubby's the same way about baseball. He saw Reggie, Mr. October, back in the day and has been a Yankee fan since. Growing up in CA, I was a Dodgers fan, but hubby converted me through many a live game. We even sat once in the prime seats a row behind Rudy Guiliani (yes, I behaved) by the Yankee dugout and I got to meet a few players. I'm still the consumate sports wife; so while I'm rooting for the Yanks, I know enough to root for your White Sox (and their former Yankee pitching!), Doug -- at least in this series (no offense ap3).

Congrats on kicking our butts in Game 1...

Soapy, my father's a Cards fan. And single.

Thanks, Alice. I had a blast. Wouldn't want sleep through a game like today's. Might get hit in the head by a homerun ball.

Sar and Alice, I would fight and die to defend your rights to be Yankee fans, however I may feel personally about your choice.

Thanks, Actonbell. I like reading, too, although I rarely travel for the purpose.

Thanks, Aral. That was gracious of you. White Sox fans should never gloat and I won't. We're kind of the Franciscans of fandom.

Congratulations on your team's win. I enjoyed the post.
My main connection to baseball is very tenuous. I went to school with Steinbrenner's daughter before he bought the Yankees.

This was a sweet story.

Congrats on win one and two. *sigh* At least if the Red Sox lose, I can start pulling for the White Sox. Thanks for that anyway.

Thanks, Weirsdo. That's pretty cool. I may need you to call her for tickets if the Yankees beat the Angels.

TLP, glad to have you on my side.

Sorry, Doug, but I haven't seen her since her father was, I believe, indicted for laundering illegal campaign contributions to Nixon through his workers' Christmas bonuses (I may have a few details wrong here, since I was just a kid at the time) and they moved out of Ohio and bought the Yankees.

Thanks, anyway, Weirsdo. Nothing like an indictment to mess up a fine plan.
