"and gave as generously as before" - that line made me laugh. as the Magus said in the theatre, people are people, they love money, they have always done, they love money of whatever it is made, leather, paper, bronze or gold, they are foolish, of course, but every once in a while mercy speaks in their hearts. in one word, they are people.
